THE BENEFITS OF CAFFEINE IN COFFEE
Do you enjoy your morning coffee like I do? I am a coffee lover who have to have just one cup of coffee a day to give me the ‘perk me up’ so I am able to function at work. This habit is carried on in the weekends when I need just one cup of coffee with fresh milk to help me start off my day even if it is a relaxing one. Coffee does have a positive magical effect on me as it sparks off a sense of alertness and wakes me up instantly. It helps me to think better and concentrate better for a period of time till the caffeine wears off after 6 hours.
Here is good news for coffee addicts. According to the New York Times, coffee enhances performance in sports based on research done since 1978. Sportsmen and those who work out in the gym could exercise harder and for longer periods after drinking coffee as caffeine helps muscles use fat as a fuel, thus sparing the glycogen stored in muscles and increasing endurance. Here’s another good news to all sports enthusiasts. You can use caffeine as a legal performance enhancer in any sports competition as it is not banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency. Caffeine also affects the brain’s sensation of exhaustion, the feeling that it is time to stop, by encouraging caffeine consumers to spur on in what they do. One cup of coffee is enough to result in an increase in alertness when compounds send signals to the brain. This translates in a burst of energy. So there you go. It does have the same effect on me.
Don’t feel guilty if you have to have that cup of coffee. It surely does you good. And one last word of advice: Restrict your coffee intake as having too much of anything is harmful to your health.
